Projects

A mixture of funded and self-funded projects from the last few years, mostly centring around music and sound.
Billy's Dragon
During the pandemic I wrote a song and then a wonderful collaboration ensued with artist and animator Julie Meikle, and this is the result.
Billy's Dragon is inspired by a children's book, but it’s also maybe about what can happen to the problems we ignore.
A Toast to the Old Apple Tree.
An audio piece exploring the ancient tradition of wassailing commissioned for BBC New Creatives in 2019.

The word wassail has its roots in the old English for “your health” and the tradition involves the blessing of apple trees to ensure a good harvest. Wassails are generally noisy affairs with music, shouting and sometimes the banging together of kitchen implements. This rich tapestry of sound complements interviews and soundscapes.
Sleeping Vincent - Following Ghosts
Sleeping Vincent is an ever-evolving collection of musicians fronted by Guitarist and vocalist Max Mason. Following Ghosts was recorded during the summer of 2020 in several different locations across the UK and brings together songs of travel and adventure, of stepping into the shoes of our ancestors and enjoying the world around us.

"The album features the wonderful flautist Hannah Earl. Her ability to interweave harmony and melody has been invaluable to the project."

Nightlife - The Hullaballoo Festival of Improvisation
This semi-improvised film was created using a movement activated wildlife camera and explores some of the more unusual activities of nocturnal British wildlife...

It was premiered at The Hullaballoo festival of improvisation 2019 and accompanied live by the Hullaballoo improvising orchestra.
Joyful Noises
Joyful Noises was commissioned by Seed, the Arts Council England funded Creative People and Places project for Sedgemoor with Tim Hill.

Centring around the Thursday night clap for Carers, Joyful Noises documented this new Thursday night tradition, explored parallels with other noise-making traditions and created a noisy time capsule from Spring 2020.
